Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) milling is a cutting process by which material is removed from an item by a rotating cutting tool. Cutting tools of various profile shapes are available including square, rounded, and angled. Because of the computer-assisted milling machines, a wide variety of part shapes and geometries are possible, and extremely close tolerances are easily achieved.
At New Method, our CNC milling produces a wide variety of parts and assemblies, including making details for stamping dies. Our CNC milling machines can handle processes for a wide range of projects and a large variety of materials, including:
- Heavy duty metals
- Plastic polymers
- Precious metals
- Specialty alloys
- Tool Steel
- Ren Shape
Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) converts a CAD drawing into a mathematical code that is read by the milling machine computer. The material to be milled is fixed onto a special table, and the precise location of the material is found and zeroed on the machine. The computer then follows the coded program line by line and feeds instructions to the milling machine, which allows for exacting tolerances and complex shapes or tasks.
